Instructions

A new theatrical production, titled “Warriors,” is poised to make its debut on the Broadway stage in the spring of 2027. This upcoming musical is a collaborative creation, penned by the celebrated Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis.

“Warriors” draws its inspiration from the iconic 1979 cinematic release and the original 1965 novel by Sol Yurick. This stage adaptation introduces a distinctive element: all roles for the gang members are portrayed by women, offering a fresh perspective on the narrative. The story follows a New York City gang’s perilous journey across the metropolis after being wrongly accused of assassinating a prominent rival gang leader. Prior to its full theatrical announcement, Miranda and Davis unveiled a concept album for the show in 2024. This album boasted an impressive roster of musical talent, including Ms. Lauryn Hill, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Marc Anthony, Billy Porter, and many others, generating considerable anticipation for the full production. The creators expressed their excitement about bringing the dynamic world of “Warriors” to life on Broadway, promising an experience filled with heart and resilience.

The highly anticipated production will commence its preview performances at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in March 2027. The creative team includes Jenny Koons as the director, with Andy Blankenbuehler, known for his work on “Hamilton,” serving as co-director and choreographer. The producing team comprises Thomas Kail, Lin-Manuel Miranda, his father Luis A. Miranda, Jr., and Jeffrey Seller. The musical features elaborate scenic design by David Korins, costume design by Dede Ayite, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Jason Crystal, and projection design by Hana S. Kim, with musical supervision and orchestrations handled by Kurt Crowley, Scott Wasserman, and Mike Elizondo. Details regarding the cast are expected to be announced in due course.

This upcoming Broadway show highlights the power of creative reinterpretation, breathing new life into a classic story while incorporating contemporary perspectives. It exemplifies how art can evolve, resonating with new audiences while maintaining its original essence of struggle and determination. The production’s diverse team and innovative casting choices reflect a forward-thinking approach to storytelling, promising an engaging and thought-provoking theatrical experience.
