In 2019, an ambitious initiative was launched by the Fujian Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. This visionary program sought to elevate the living conditions of local farmers, fulfilling their aspirations for an enhanced quality of life, and simultaneously explore innovative architectural styles for new residential buildings rooted in the distinctive Fujian tradition. As part of this comprehensive plan, ten diverse sites across ten counties in Fujian Province were carefully selected, with ten highly experienced design teams from various regions invited to contribute their expertise. The project highlighted in this report stands as a prime example, being among the first to reach completion.

Nestled within Wuxi Village, Wufeng Town, Yongchun County, Quanzhou City, the project site occupies a dynamic hillside characterized by notable elevation differences. The elevated sections of the landscape are adorned with natural forests and tranquil ponds, creating a serene environment. Conversely, the lower areas seamlessly connect with the established architectural fabric of the existing village. The development adopted a strategic approach to land management, utilizing a point-based land supply model. This was complemented by a cohesive, overarching planning and design framework. A key aspect of the project's implementation involved local villagers actively participating in the construction of their own homes, fostering a sense of ownership and community engagement. Concurrently, essential public infrastructure and shared facilities were meticulously financed through government funding, ensuring comprehensive support for the community's needs.

This initiative effectively merges contemporary living requirements with traditional Fujian architectural aesthetics. By focusing on sustainable rural development and empowering local residents, the project creates a vibrant and improved living environment. The integration of modern design principles with local cultural heritage has set a precedent for future rural modernization efforts in the region, offering a model for harmonizing progress with tradition.
